Proper Storage

At home, in the car, while at camp - make a habit of storing your BV ONE locked for optimal long-term performance.

Best Practices

  • Store fully locked
  • Keep upright with the larger half on top when outdoors (for rain)

Need to Save Space?

The BV ONE can also be stored collapsed or nested.

If nested:

  • Make sure the inner half is perfectly straight for easy removal.
  • Use gravity to help separate the halves when you take them out of storage.

After each trip, give your BV ONE a quick inspection to ensure everything is functioning properly. Check for: smooth button movement and locking function

Cleaning Your BV ONE

  • Use mild soap and water
  • NOT dishwasher safe — we checked.

Ease Into Lock

No need to whip it shut. Lock your BV ONE slowly and deliberately. A smooth, controlled motion helps the locking components engage properly.

Tab Reset Guide

Tab Reset

With extended use or compressed storage, the tabs may angle inward a bit such that they don’t click as strongly when you lock your BV ONE. This is easy to correct.

Reset the tabs if you notice: the lid doesn’t click as firmly as usual when locking.

How to Reset

  • Step 1: Gently extend the tabs outward
  • Step 2: Insert your plastic divider beneath the tab to hold it in the extended position
  • Step 3: Leave it wedged under the tab for 5+ minutes
  • Step 4: Repeat the process for the opposite tab

Other Tools That Work

Don’t have the divider handy? These can also work in the field: camp utensil, sipper pull, or paper clip

Chemical Exposure & DEET

Chemical damage is one of the biggest threats to the long-term strength of your BearVault canister.

Avoid DEET Exposure

DEET: useful against mosquitos, bad for your BearVault (and realistically your skin).

DEET can damage polycarbonate plastic and cause spontaneous cracking. A DEET-damaged canister is not usable or bear resistant.

If Carrying DEET:
  • Always double-bag it! No seriously…ALWAYS!
  • Apply far away from your canister and gear
  • Ensure there is no residue around the opening or outside of the bags.
  • Clean immediately if contact occurs

Chemical damage from DEET voids the warranty

Other Chemicals Known to React:
  • Certain fishing baits
  • Essential Oils
  • Petroleum products
  • Paints and solvent

UV Damage

BV ONE canisters are made from a UV-resistant proprietary polycarbonate blend.

Normal outdoor use does not cause UV damage. However, prolonged storage in direct sunlight can weaken the plastic over time. So try an avoid turning your canister into lawn decoration.

Signs of UV Damage May Include:
  • Yellowing plastic
  • Increased brittleness

Wildlife Damage

If a bear or other wild animal damages your canister, it is covered under our warranty program. Promptly replace damaged canisters if they have anything more serious than minor scratches (caused by animals).

If the canister structure, lock, or unlock mechanisms have been affected, replace your canister.

Simple Care. Reliable Performance.

Built for the backcountry. A little maintenance keeps it that way.

Like any high-performance gear, a few small habits like proper storage and the occasional tab reset help your BV ONE perform exactly as intended, trip after trip.
